Golfer’s Marathon Fundraiser Aiming for a Record 162 Holes Played in One Day Rescheduled to July 19
AVON, CT, July 12, 2021 – At 5:00 a.m. on Monday, July 19, Brian Cuddeback will re-start a marathon – the golf marathon that got rained out July 12.
On July 19 he will pursue his goal of playing 162 holes (nine rounds) of golf in one day to raise $20,000 for Gifts of Love. The quest began on July 12 but was drowned out by a rainstorm. With the support of club pro, Steve Madison, he’s arranged for this crack-of-dawn tee time at the Golf Club of Avon on Monday, July 19.
Cuddeback came up with this personal endurance challenge last year, setting a goal of 126 holes (seven rounds) in one day and raising $10,000. He beat it, playing 135 holes of golf and raising just under of $12,000.
“Under the cloud of COVID last year, I undertook a personal endurance challenge last year, to raise funds through golf to support Gifts, of Love,” says Cuddeback, an Avon resident. “This year, I’m going at it again to play more and raise more. My thanks to Steve Madison and the Golf Club of Avon for again providing the venue.”
Cuddeback has pledged to match all donations dollar-for-dollar for the first $5,000. Supporters have already raised over $3,000 to kick-start the fundraiser. Cuddeback’s unique challenge continues to look for pledges for each round he plays. Donors can pledge through the Gifts of Love website (GiftsOfLoveCT.org) and contributions received by midnight, July 12 will be credited to Cuddeback’s golf marathon fundraiser. Cuddeback will be texting donors throughout the day to update them on his progress.
“Every penny I raise will go to Gifts of Love,” says Cuddeback. “This is an organization founded more than 30 years ago by the local community to provide hope and comfort to those experiencing a financial crisis. I am so supportive of the organization’s founding principle: neighbors helping neighbors. Gifts of Love operates food, clothing and housewares pantries in both Avon and Hartford, and an organic farm in Simsbury. Their Weekend Backpack Program distributes enough food to feed a family on the weekends. More than 700 people a month benefit from these important programs.”
