Gifts of Love’s Weekend Backpack Program Featured on Simsbury TV

Gifts of Loves is on the front lines of fighting childhood hunger with our Weekend Backpack program.  It provides students in 23 schools with a weekend’s worth of food to feed their families.  Each week a loyal group of volunteers gathers at Gifts of Love to fill the backpacks with healthy foods, beverages and snacks that the participating schools have ready for the students to take home on Fridays.  The program is currently spotlighted on Simsbury TV.  It features two of the program’s volunteers who fill the backpacks every week, Amy Borg from Farmington and Amy Buonocore from Simsbury along with Nancy Carlson, who runs the program and is the Gifts of Love Volunteer and Outreach Manager.  It also showcases the work of this program in the West Hartford and Simsbury schools in interviews with Haley Rice, LCSW, an Elementary School Social Worker in the Simsbury Public Schools and Tracey Roberts, RN/BSN a School Nurse at the Wolcott School in West Hartford.  These two women have seen the impact of the program first-hand.  You can watch the segment on Tuesdays (2:30 and 7:00 pm)  and Thursdays (1:30 p.m.) on Comcast 5 & 1084 and Frontier 6069.
