Gifts of Love’s New CSA Offers Organic Produce and Benefits Those in Need
AVON, CT, May 13, 2021 – A new CSA will not only offer organic produce but will also help fight hunger. Members who participate in Gifts of Love’s new Community Supported Program will get a weekly share of the harvest and, at the same time, donate fresh produce to those facing food insecurity.
“What makes this CSA unique is that a part of every membership fee covers the cost of providing fresh produce and pantry programs to those facing food insecurity,” says Ryan Pettengill, Executive Director of Gifts of Love. “Participants get weekly organic produce and part of their CSA membership goes towards getting healthy food to those in need. In addition, they can choose to sponsor a family for the season through a separate tax-deductible donation of $475.”
Shares are now available for the season which will run from June 21 to September 27. The cost is $475 per share. Weekly shares will include a variety of produce, such as arugula, basil, beets, green beans, brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, chard, cilantro, cucumbers, eggplant, kale, lettuce, melons, peppers, radishes, squash, tomatoes and turnips, depending upon the harvest. For the first time, the Gifts of Love farm will also offer farm fresh eggs and honey.
Participants can choose to pick up their weekly shares at the Gifts of Love office in Avon or at the Gifts of Love Farm in Simsbury. Pickups at the office will be on Fridays, starting June 21 from 1:00 to 4:00. Pickups at the farm will be on Fridays from 3:00 to 6:00. Those unable to make their weekly pickup may donate their share to Gifts of Love’s clients.
Only 20 shares will be available on a first-come-first serve basis. Signups are now open at the Gifts of Love website, GiftsOfLoveCT.org.
