Volunteers

Last year, More than 75 volunteers gave 7,682 hours of their time.

Studies show that volunteering alleviates stress, eases depression and leads to better physical health. And we need your help! Last year, over 75 volunteers spent over 7,000 hours helping with clients, sorting clothes, stocking shelves and working at the front desk. We truly couldn't do any of this without them.

Please contact Sue Dworman at 860- 676-2323 or sdworman@giftsoflovect.org if you would like to join us.

Gifts of Love volunteers are the lifeblood of the agency and perform essential functions on a day to day basis. They serve on the board of directors, stock the food pantry, sort and stock clothes and linens, assist in the holiday room, move furniture, maintain donor records, organize fundraisers and food drives, provide grant writing and public relations support, and help to stuff and distribute the weekend food backpacks. Volunteers also assist in maintaining and harvesting at the 1 acre garden at the Simsbury Community Farm. Whether an adult, in high school, middle school, college, retired or not yet in kindergarten, there is an opportunity for all who would like to participate.

Gifts of Love operates with a lean paid staff supplemented by more than 550 hours per month from more than 75 volunteers. This significant volunteer commitment, along with the amount of goods donated, speaks volumes about the support this agency has from the community.

Gifts of Love also works closely with area community groups and high schools in order to provide an area where kids can fulfill their community service obligations. Many of our student volunteers remain active with the agency long after they are finished with their required hours.
